  • Overview

    An import entry writer should have a sound understanding of the mechanics of U.S. Customs procedures and compliance. This position requires an understanding of the handling and distribution of import documents, and be able to interpret the details provided by foreign agents in correspondence.  This position requires considerable time on the telephone, and the capability of communicating patiently and professionally with stations and customers.  This position requires a knowledge of HTS as well as excellent written and verbal communication skills.  Experience with Smartborder is preferred.


    • Answering the telephone, and handling inquiries or directing calls to the appropriate party within the department.
    • Reviewing correspondence from agents and stations relative to imports customs clearance operations.
    • Relaying foreign agent correspondence to the appropriate party.
    • Act as liaison between international agents and stations to answer questions.
    • Enter data into computer system in accordance with US Customs Requirements under the direction of a Licensed Custom Broker
    • Verify that import shipments are accurate and complete
    • Filing
    • Comply with SEKO’s C-TPAT Security Profile.
    • Expected to uphold SEKO’s Core Values.

    High school diploma or general education degree (GED); and one to three years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.


    LANGUAGE SKILLS: Ability to:

    • Read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
    • Write routine reports and correspondence.
    • Speak effectively to customers on the telephone
    • Fluency in a language other than English is desirable although not essential.


    • Add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
    • Compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.


    REASONING ABILITY: Ability to:

    • Apply commonsense understanding to carry out detailed written or oral instructions.
    • Deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.
